If you live, work, or play in Manitou Springs, help us name the Baby Dino installed next to “Johnny Stegosaurus” in Seven Minute Park and win a $250 prize package of a $50 gift card to Theo’s Toys, plus $200 in Manitou Money.

Paul Brandt Lippart of Brandt Metalworks in Windsor, CO created both works of art from steel and recycled machine parts. The sculptor named the large stegosaurus “Johnny Stegosaurus” as a tribute to a friend who passed away.

  • October 7, 2020: Contest winner notified by email and announced publicly. That winner is 11-year-old Leila VanHorn of Colorado Springs.
  • Winner featured on the MSCD website homepage, Contest webpage, and the baby stegosaurus sculpture will be temporarily named the winning entry as long as the installation is part of the Manitou Springs Arts on the Avenue program

Contest Rules

Help us brainstorm names for the baby stegosaurus sculpture. The Manitou Springs Arts Council will choose the finalist name selections and the public will have a chance to vote on the winner.

General Description

The Manitou Springs Baby Dino Naming contest is supported by the Manitou Springs Arts Council (MSAC) and the Manitou Springs Creative District (MSCD). “Johnny Stegosaurus” is a sculpture by Colorado artist Paul Brandt Lippart. He thrives on taking old machinery apart and finding a way to re-fabricate it in unique ways for his company, Brandt Metalworks.

We encourage individuals of any age to enter. The name and form information must be submitted electronically (see the Contest Submission Page). 

All entries must be submitted to the MSCD web form (see the Contest Submission Page) by Friday, September 11, 5:00 pm MT to be eligible to enter the contest. An MSAC review committee will evaluate each submission and will select the finalists. The public will vote on the  finalists and The Grand Prize winner (of the $250 prize package) will be notified via email after the voting ends.

Eligibility

  1. The contest is open to all individuals who live, work or play in Manitou Springs, Colorado.
  2. All information on the entry form must consist solely of the original work of the individual who submits the entry.

Naming

  1. Your entry must be submitted digitally.
  2. Your entry may not contain profanity. 
  3. If the MSAC/MSCD or contest review committee staff deems the content of the entry inappropriate, the entry may be disqualified from the contest. 

Contest Entry and Submission

  1. Visit manitouspringscd.org/babydino to complete the contest entry form.
  2. One entry per person. 
  3. Entries must be submitted between September 11, 2020, 5:00pm MT
  4. Verify email address on entry form prior to submitting. MSCD/MSAC will use this email address to contact you. 
  5. The contest entry will have been officially submitted when a confirmation page appears. Questions concerning submission can be emailed to director@manitouspringscd.org. 

Selection of Winners

  1. A committee of judges from MSCD will evaluate entries in a blind review based on the name’s relevance to the app content.
  2. The public will vote on the finalists and the one with the most votes will be the grand prize winner.
  3. Winner will be notified via email (using the email provided in contest entry). 
  4. Winner will be featured on the MSCD website and the baby stegosaurus will officially be called the name of the winning entry for the duration of its time as an art installation in the Manitou Springs community. 

Prizes

  1. Prizes will be awarded as follows:
  2. One Grand Prize winner will be selected and will:
  3. Receive A $250 prize package consisting of a $50 gift certificate to Theo’s Toys and $200 in Manitou Money.
  4. Be featured on the MSCD  “Contest Winner” webpage.
  5. Finalists will be selected by the MSAC/MSCD review committee and will:
  6. See their entries presented on the public voting ballot.
  7. The Grand Prize winner and finalists must submit required contest documentation forms before prizes can be officially awarded. These forms will be emailed to the winner in the notification email. Forms include:
  8. A W-9 form requiring a Social Security number.
  9. A Release Form giving MSAC/MSCD the permission to use the individual’s name on their websites.
  10. All forms must be received by October 28th, 2020 or the individual will be disqualified from the contest and an alternate will be chosen.
  11. The prizes will be distributed 4-6 weeks after the required documents are received (the required documentation will be provided to the finalists).
  12. The MSAC/MSCD distributes the prizes and reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value in the event any prize cannot be awarded as stated. Prizes are non-transferable and may be subject to IRS tax reporting.

  1. The MSAC/MSCD reserve the right to cancel the Manitou Springs Baby Dino Naming contest for any reason at any time during the contest duration.
  2. The MSAC/MSCD reserve the right to amend these rules and policies at any time and without notice. Any changes will be posted online on this page.
  3. Winners of any prize are solely responsible for all applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
  4. Each individual agrees that MSAC/MSCD and their respective affiliates, employees, or funding agency shall not be responsible or liable for damages or losses of any kind arising out of or resulting from entry in this contest, acceptance or use of a prize or any other matter related to the contest, including, without limitation, claims based on property damage, personal injury and/or death, publicity rights, defamation or invasion of privacy.
  5. By entering the Manitou Springs Baby Dino Naming contest, each individual agrees to abide by and are bound by all decisions from the MSAC/MSCD committee relating to the determination winners.
  6. Upon submission of the entries, the individual agrees that TCAI owns the rights to the name may use in any way deemed necessary for the duration of the time that the sculpture is installed in the Manitou Springs community.
