Back to School Baby Dino Naming Contest

Baby Dino

In honor of the first full week back to school, Manitou Springs Arts Council (MSAC) and Manitou Springs Creative District (MSCD) announced a Baby Dino Naming Contest for the latest art installation in the community. The winner will receive a $250 prize package comprised of a $50 gift card to Theo’s Toys and $200 in Manitou Money.

People of all ages who live, work, or play in Manitou Springs are invited to name the Baby Dino installed next to “Johnny Stegosaurus” in Seven Minute Park.

“Back to School Week can be both an exciting and stressful time for any community,” said MSCD recovery director/executive director Becca Sickbert. “We hope to share some fun by celebrating some of our community’s favorite things: art, creativity, outdoor spaces, and our state dinosaur.”

The contest form opens today and will accept entries through Friday, September 11, 2020 at 5 PM. The public may submit their entry at manitouspringscd.org/babydino.

Paul Brandt Lippart of Brandt Metalworks in Windsor, CO created both “Johnny Stegosaurus” and the baby dinosaur from steel and recycled machine parts. The sculptor named the large stegosaurus as a tribute to a friend who passed away. The baby stegosaurus will bear the winning name for the duration of its installation in the Manitou Springs community.

You can visit the pair of dinosaur sculptures at Seven Minute Spring Park located at 422 Washington Ave, Manitou Springs, CO 80829.

The contest is sponsored by the City of Manitou Springs, Theo’s Toys, and the Manitou Springs Chamber & Visitors Center/Office of Economic Development. For more information and complete contest rules, visit manitouspringscd.org/babydino.
