Love the Town You’re In

July 2, 2020

“Love the Town You’re In” debuts today in Manitou Springs with the installation of banners along Manitou Avenue in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The city-wide campaign represents a coordinated effort to support local businesses and protect public health led by the Manitou Springs Creative District (MSCD) in partnership with the Manitou Springs Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center.

There are so many ways to show love for our local communities right now. In a town that measures social distancing in hula hoops, we felt it was vital to take public health guidelines seriously, but in a playful way that’s true to Manitou Springs.

In a recently concluded Polco survey of Manitou Springs residents, 80% responded that they felt all employees wearing masks and enhanced cleaning/disinfecting measures were “Essential” or “Important” to resuming operations.

Similarly, 78% responded they felt all customers wearing masks was “Essential” or “Important” for returning to business in-person, and over 71% responded that they felt limitations of the number of people in support of social distancing were “Essential” or “Important.”

When we surveyed Manitou businesses and residents, what became clear is that a large percentage of both our business community and our residents were concerned about maintaining public health, and that they were keen to see efforts that would signal Manitou Springs is both open for business and dedicated to keeping everyone healthy.

The multi-channel campaign features messaging about supporting local businesses, hand washing, social distancing, and wearing masks:

  • It’s a Big Deal to Shop Small
  • Eat, Drink & Wash Your Hands
  • 6’ Distance Makes Our Hearts Grow Fonder
  • Please, We’re Masking For Manitou #maskingformanitou

In addition to street banners and social media graphics, non-slip vinyl decals will appear at key congestion points on sidewalks downtown to prompt visitors to remember social distancing.
